Thursday 15 th We decided to move on from Casey’s camping park in Dungarvin ans headed west towards Kinsale, we passed through Youghal and onto Cobh.   We looked at the quay car park where we could have stayed overnight but as there was no accessible swimming or facilities, we continued to Kinsale and found the Garretstown House camp site. This was a good site with views nice facilities and reasonable price. Less than a mile away was Garretstown beach – Charlie went in swimming. Lovely sunny evening with people on the beach and in swimming. We went to Ballinspittle for supper at Hurleys Pub and it was still warm enough to eat al fresco.

Wednesday 14 th After a good Irish fry up for breakfast at Sheila and Johny’s we were shown around their place, the river, the original Ironmills which was the Ryan’s ancestral home, the lake and the view from the hill we set off to visit the Nicholas Mosse pottery and shop.   Charlie made some purchases in the shop and we viewed the action in the pottery factory – everything done by hand. The turbine in the river that replaced the original mill wheel was interesting and it powered the whole of the site.   From Kilkenny we made our way to the coast and a camp site near Dungarvan.   We went for a drink in a pub just west of the village which offered “Britstop” and decided it was to far out from civilisation and it did not serve food so not suitable for the next nights stop-over.

Tuesday 13 th On disembarking we found the harbour car park and eventually cracking the Irish car parking app paid our dues we manged a few hours of sleep.   Eventually we set off on our Irish tour – first stop was Waterford.   We ambled around some of the old city where Colonel Meagher was born and led the Young Irelanders rebellion arrested for sedition sentenced to death but was deported to Van Deiman’s Land (Tasmania) and also Wolfe Tone first raised the Irish tricolour in Waterford.   We had lunch on a roof terrace overlooking the quay.   From Waterford we made our way inland to Cappawhite in County Tipperary to visit Johnny Ryan, Roger’s brother.     In the evening Johnny took us to the local pub in Doon.   A wonderful evening with Irish music and the best Guinness I have had for a long time.

Monday 12 th : We manged to set off approximately on time and headed for Fishguard.   My attempt to avoid a lot of motorway/trunk road driving was not very successful but had the plus was we found a great village pub called Plash Inn in Llanfalltegh and ate very good barbeque spare ribs – great value. Recommend it if you can find it and actually ask directions using the place name.   From the pub stop it was a short hop to the ferry port.   Crossing was calm but in spite of plenty of space to lie out difficult to sleep as it was chilly with the air conditioning turned up.
The Knights and the Rudrams are due to set off for their camper-van convoy on Monday 12th of June, you can follow our little adventure around some the Emerald Ilse on this blog
